What is Wind Power?
Wind power is referred as using the power of the wind to generate electricity that would power our homes. This is made possible through using wind power generators and wind energy turbines. A lot of people think that wind power has something to do with very difficult scientific facts, but it does not. Wind power itself was already being used by the very people who lived in 300BC to power their boats and to grind wheat or other grains. Nowadays, we do not just use wind power for boats or grains, we use wind power to supplement or substitute our electricity needs for our day to day lives. In order to make things simple, this article is created to explain some of the difficult and confusing info about wind power.
The Things We Know About Wind Power
Majority of us know that wind power is a renewable source of energy. We know that it is convenient, cheap and environment friendly. In all of these, we see a tall tower with rotating blades that moves fast when the wind is strong, and moves slow when the wind is weak. These rotating blades are what we see in farms, near the ocean, in the mountains and other places that we could think of that has strong wind in it.
In terms of the marketability, other people perceive this renewable source of energy as cheap, while there are some who think of it as an expensive liability. There are also some who markets this product and gets rich in return, while there are also some who would simply ignore this topic and go on with their lives. It seems that majority of us have superficial knowledge about wind power at all. How can wind power generate electricity itself?
Wind Power to electricity
A lot of people believe that in order to understand electricity one must study for years in order to understand the topic. This may be true, but this is not our focus. The clearest explanation about electricity is that it exists naturally and it is only being harnessed by man. Existing naturally is defined as what is already present (God made) in nature that we are just using. In order to generate electricity, rub two metals and you are actually generating it; however, this electricity is so weak that you can’t feel anything and it can’t even power a single appliance.
The process of rubbing metals is called by our experts as electromagnetic induction. What happens here is that metals rub each other, and the conductors, in the form of copper wires, then captures the electricity generated, store it and make it available for use. This explanation is the easiest way of understanding the concept. If you know more about the topic, disregard this info and go with your idea. This explanation is just used to make other readers understand what is going on inside their machine.
If you are wondering how metals can rub each other, look at the rotating blades of the turbines. That rotation we see outside is actually creating a rubbing motion/friction inside that creates the electricity for our use. The metals will rub each other faster provided that the fan blades would move faster. The speed of these fan blades heavily relies on the strength and consistency of the wind currents.
Wind Power Summary
Wind power is a natural source of energy since it is always present in our planet. It does not create harmful residues and it does not cost anything to be used. Our knowledge about wind power energy is a good start for igniting our curiosity on how to save money, as well as our curiosity to learn more about natural sciences.
